Here are some of the things the Coffee Hound does to reduce, recycle and reuse:
A few years ago, some employees took it upon themselves to begin recycling the plastic containers used at the Coffee Hound locations. Now, we recycle all milk containers, syrup bottles, boxes, used java jackets, used plastic cups and newspapers at both the Davenport and Bettendorf locations.
The boxes in which our flavored syrup bottles are delivered are saved, and given back to Country Club Coffee, where they reuse them as long as possible.
To encourage reuse of java jackets, we retired our original stamp cards in favor of a combination stamp card/java jacket. Customers receive a stamp on the back of their Java Jacket for each specialty drink purchased. After twelve stamps the customer gets a free 16oz drink of their choice and a new Java Jacket. The old jacket is then recycled. Instead of just 1 use and then in the garbage, we reuse the Java Jacket 13 times and recycle it!
Used coffee grounds are saved, and offered for free to gardeners.
All lightbulbs are being replaced with compact florescent bulbs as needed.
